Merge Results Issue In Chain

logo

Skill-Lync

ISSUE: While creating the curve-driven pattern in the chain. While selecting the pins, the other bodies, like links, are also getting selected.

NOTE: whenever we are creating a chain model, we want three different bodies in the entire model, they are pins, outer links, and inner links..one should not be merged or combined with the other.

1. PIN

2. OUTER LINK

3. INNER LINK

MERGE RESULTS:

1) Merge results or merge solids is the option that is used to combine the two separate bodies into a single body if they are in contact with each other.

2) This merge results option will appear in the boss extrude command.

3) For example, if we consider a chain model while creating the pin and link, both are in contact with each other, when we click on the merge result option, we can observe that both the link and pin will be combined together as a single solid body even though we are creating them as two separate bodies.

4) If we are deselecting on the merge results, then we can observe that the bodies that we have created will not be combined into a single body.

Procedure:

1While creating the outer link, inner link, and pins, we should deselect the merge results option to create these bodies as separate bodies.

2. If we are selecting the merge results option, we will be combining the links with the pins.

3. When we do that, we will not have a separate link and pin anymore, both bodies will be combined into one body.

4. Due to this reason when we are trying to select the bodies for doing the pattern, multiple bodies are getting selected.

5. So whenever you are facing such an issue in selecting the bodies for the curve-driven pattern, try to deselect the merge result options for all the boss extrudes before doing the curve-driven pattern.

6. After deselecting the merge results for all the links and pins, if you are doing the curve-driven pattern by selecting all four bodies(two pins and one outer link, and one inner link), your preview will look like this.

CONCLUSION:

As mentioned above, while creating the interlinks, outer links, and pins, we should always uncheck the merge results option while using the boss extrude command. Check out this course to know more about the Merge Results in Chain.

DFMA for Snap Fits In Plastics

Snap joints are a really simple, economical and rapid way of joining two different components. every kind of snap joint have in common the principle that a protruding part of one component, e.g., a hook, stud or bead is deflected briefly during the joining operation and catches during a depression (undercut) within the mating component. After the joining operation, the snap-fit features should return to a stress-free condition.

Plastic product development - An overview

The most popular production method for creating plastic parts is injection moulding. Injection moulding is used to create a vast range of items, each with a unique size, level of intricacy, and use. The injection molding process requires the use of an injection molding machine, raw plastic material, and a mold.

Living Hinges In Plastics

Living hinges must be designed, prototyped and created from scratch. Design is done using Computer Aided Software [CAD] whereas prototyping is done using one of the three major methodologies like CNC Machining (a subtractive process) and Injection Molding or 3-D printing.

Spring Back Effect In Sheet Metals

When a part is released from the forces of the forming tool at the end of the operation, Springbank is the geometric modification made to the part. Springback is the geometric change made to a part at the end of the forming process when the part has been released from the forces of the forming tool.

Flatness and Parallelism: A Comparison

In GD&T the important terms are Flatness and Parallelism as the way of representation is the same as well as the tolerance zone shape is also the same hence these two terms often cause confusion in representing as well as usage.
