Top Job Roles in Embedded Systems

What are Embedded Systems?

A computer hardware and software combination operates as part of a bigger system. These systems may be programmable or may only perform certain functions.

Embedded system is used to build consumer electronics, industrial machinery, aeroplanes, automobiles, medical devices, vending machines, cameras, and agricultural and home appliances.

Listed below are nine top job roles in this sector.

1. Biomedical Engineer

One of the most important embedded systems jobs involves designing, developing, repairing and maintaining biomedical equipment. The biomedical engineer must ensure that the equipment complies with regulatory standards and meets quality control standards. To become a biomedical engineer, you must have at least a bachelor's degree and two years of domain experience.

2. Embedded Systems Architect

Embedded system architects design and implement the software of the embedded systems. Their responsibilities include

  • Review of Design
  • Integrating code
  • Validating New Product Designs,
  • Maintaining the Development Cycle of System Software From Design Through Debugging.

You should have proven work experience in software engineering. You should also have experience in embedded systems design and experience in multitasking real-time operating systems.

3. Embedded Software Engineer

The embedded software engineer develops embedded software programs. They collaborate with clients and conceive programs based on the specifications of the client's needs. It is one of the most important embedded engineer jobs to review and maintain the systems after deployment. For this job role, you have to have client-facing communication skills. A specialist degree is important in embedded software engineering.

4. Embedded Systems Engineer

Embedded systems engineers play a crucial role in the design development, testing, production and maintenance of embedded systems. The test system aims to regulate and eliminate potential issues and provide system-level support working with cross-functional teams like mechanical hardware software. The systems engineer needs to provide the subject matter with expert-level experience in integrating the software and hardware.

5. Firmware Engineer

The firmware engineer creates software used in programmable devices. You need to design and implement algorithms for the firmware, and you are also required to create technical documents which describe the usage of the firmware. The engineer is also responsible for overseeing the firmware's development process, including everything from designing to creation. You have to update the existing software based on the company's needs. To secure this job, you must show proof of firmware engineering certification.

6. Hardware Engineer

The hardware engineers are responsible for the electrical design elements of the electrical system, like high-speed digital PCB layouts and thermal management, besides power management.

They have to implement high-performance computing platforms and work with the system architecture mechanical and electrical engineers' firmware to realise the future generation of the autonomous driving system solution. You must have a bachelor's degree in this field.

7. Hardware Test Engineer

The hardware test engineer designs, implements, and tests the hardware systems. If you take up this role, you must use different testing techniques and regularly review and test the hardware. Besides that, you have to record the changes made to the hardware and problems related to the same. You must be able to work autonomously and be good at problem-solving. For this field, you must have a bachelor's degree in computer science or some related field.

8. Mobile App Developer

Being a mobile app developer, you are responsible for writing the software for hardware functionality on different mobile devices. This job requires a bachelor's degree and extensive software development experience. You have to work very closely with the development and design teams.

9. Printed Circuit Board Designer

The PCB designer develops and designs the circuit boards. They have to create and design blueprints for the circuit boards. They must work with larger teams to create circuit boards based on the company's requirements. It is required to have a background in software engineering or several years of experience designing circuit boards. If you take up this job, you have to work for software companies and have team collaboration skills besides being able to work independently.

Conclusion

To start your career as an embedded system, you must help the company design, develop and maintain embedded systems.
