PART-MODELLING OF LUXURY YACHT, ASSEMBLY AND PHOTO-REALISTIC RENDERING OF THE YACHT

AIM: 

To model the sunseeker predator yacht using SolidWorks Software.

OBJECTIVE:

• Modelling of all the parts of luxury yacht and assemble the parts of the same.
• Learn how to setup the blueprints for modelling of part.
• Understand the concept of hybrid modelling (i.e. surface modelling and solid modelling) in part model file.

INTRODUCTION:

              Hello all, myself Keval N Patel. In this project, we will discuss the procedure to design the parts of Yacht and which different commands are required to make the model. Yacht is for luxury and can be used for racing, cruising.

Blueprints of yacht are used to model the same. Combination of surface modelling and solid modelling are used.

What is YACHT?

A yacht is a medium-sized boat which is used for sailing and racing purpose. But most of it is used for luxury.

(Note: Only the parts which are to be modelled in this project, as the main purpose of the project is modelling of yacht in SolidWorks)

BLUEPRINT SETUP:

For Solid modelling and Surface modelling of Yacht, in this project I have taken some reference of blueprints. The setup of blueprint is shown as below. The main thing to consider while modelling is that it is used as a reference only, accuracy of sketching might slightly differ from the blueprint.

COMPONENTS OF YACHT:

1) RADAR

Radar is used as a navigation tools for yacht, ships, cruise, etc. It is to detect the objects, weather, land, etc. even the visibility is less.

Design method:

• Sketching with required dimensions is done. After that feature command i.e. Boss-Extrude is used to create a solid body.
• Appropriate fillets are applied to give the desired shape.
• To provide the space for fitting of radar on radar-mast the space is created by using Extrude-cut command.
• Create a bolt on the solid model and sketch driven pattern is applied minimize the time.
• Half-section of radar is created and then Mirror command is used to create the remaining section.
• Split-line command is used for the desired text on the radar.

2) PROPELLER

Propeller is used to convert the power from engine into energy which in this case is movement of yacht. In simple language it is a fan operated by engine which provides movement to the yacht.

Design method:

• Sketching with required dimensions for Revolve feature.
• Reference plane is created for the loft.
• Fillet are applied on the blades which is created by using loft feature.
• Appropriate fillets are applied on the blades and one blade is ready.
• Now circular pattern is applied and the propeller is ready.
• Desired appearance is applied to propeller

3) HULL

• Components of Hull:
• Railings
• Anchor- It is a heavy object which prevents the yacht from moving when parked.
• Stern- Back of yacht hull
• Bow- Front of yacht hull.Deck- Surface of the hull on which we can walkaround

Hull is the base of the Yacht which floats on the water. It has some space which is called deck area on which we can walkaround. It also has garage. 

Design method:

• Open the blueprint setup which we had discussed earlier.
• Sketching is done on the two different planes and then Projected-curve command from curves option is done to create the curve.
• Now the lofted-surface is used to create the surface of the hull.
• Trim-Surface is used to remove the extra surfaces.
• In between knit surface command is used to combine (sew) the surface bodies of hull.
• Railings on the edges of hull are created by using the swept-boss command.
• The cuts on the bottom are created as shown in the above figure are created using extrude cut command.

• Cable/rope as shown on the figure is created by using the helix/spiral command in curves option and then swept boss is applied on the spiral path.
•

• Stairs on the hull are by extrude cut and extrude-boss command in the features.
• As the part was symmetric we created the half portion of the hull and then by using the mirror command we will create remaining portion of the hull.

7) SUPERSTRUCTURE

Superstructure is the extension of hull. On superstructure the radar and radar-mast are mounted. It also serves as the workstation for the technical staff of the yacht.

Design method:

• With the help of blueprints the basic sketches are drawn on various planes
• Then the curves are generated using project curve.
• Using the projected curves the surfaces are created using commands like extrude surface, sweep surface, ruled surface.
• Now the surfaces bodies are created and for the solid model of the superstructure knit surfaces command is used.
• As the superstructure is symmetric I created the half section of it, an then mirrored remaining section using appropriate plane.
• Majority part of superstructure was done using surface modelling.
• Lastly the desired appearance was applied to the structure before saving.

8) RADAR MAST

Radars are the navigation instruments used for navigation purpose. It has antenna and also it has a rotating like structure on top of radar-mast.

Design method:

• This part was entirely created using solid modelling skills.
• Features like revolve boss, swept boss, boss-extrude, fillet, dome, mirror were used to model the radar-mast.

9) GARAGE DOOR

Garage-door in yacht may be manually or electronically operated.

Design method:

• Commands like boss-extrude, extrude cut, fillets are used to model the garage door.
• Text is added on the door with the help of split line.

RENDERING OF FINAL ASSEMBLY

CONCLUSION:

• The majority portion in the modelling of yacht was using the surfacing tools.
• By the time I improved my Surfacing skills and also Solid modelling.
